All of Teutonic products use the unique Tonic Vibration Reflex (TVR).
Tonic Vibration Reflex (TVR) is a sustained contraction of a muscle subjected to vibration. This reflex is caused by vibratory activation of muscle spindles - muscle receptors sensitive to stretch. This specific action guarantees that you are getting the most productive results in the most efficient way. You will see the TVR brand listed on all our products, ensuring success with the most innovative fitness equipment on the planet!
What is Whole Body Vibration?
Whole Body Vibration refers to the action of the whole body being exposed to vibration through a vibrating platform or unit.
When did Whole Body Vibration start?
Back in 1857 a Swedish doctor named Gustav Zander built different types of vibration exercise machines. Through exposure at two World Fairs he started the Zander Institute, and showcased the technology at 9 centers throughout the Netherlands.
About 38 years later, in 1895, Dr. John Harvey Kellogg (Yes Kellogg, like the cereal, also the developer of Corn Flakes) in Michigan invented the first whole body vibration machine. The first machine was a chair design that would shake aggressively, and claimed that it was the cure all for everything from back pain, to headaches, to constipation. Kellogg also wanted to find away to benefit the inner organs, so he created a standing platform for whole body vibration.
Fast forward into the next century, in 1960 East Germany began to enter into vibration technology with a technique that was called “rhythmic neuromuscular stimulation.”
But it was the Russian scientists that really took the research to the next level, the Soviet Space Program found that vibration technology was a great way to combat decreased bone density in the astronauts. In the 1990’s the technology made its way to Europe, and began to make its way into the fitness market.
How does Whole Body Vibration work?
Whole Body Vibration (WBV) works like a wake up call to the body, stimulating the musculoskeletal structure. By stimulating the musculoskeletal structure, the vibration wakes the muscles by exciting the tissue cells via the “Stretch Reflex.” This creates an overall increase of blood circulation throughout the entire body, even in places that struggle to get blood. The immediate effect can be felt as the muscles are able to work faster and more efficiently, therefore creating a more productive workout.
How does Whole Body Vibration make you more flexible?
The vibration from WBV creates an immediate resistance, instigating a myotatic reflex. This reflex is caused by the pressure created on the nerves, and sends an electrical impulse throughout the body the same way you naturally reflex when a doctor tests your reflexes. Increased pressure contracts the muscle tissue, instantly improving flexibility throughout the body. This action is similar to plyometrics. Plyometrics is a type of exercise training designed to produce fast, powerful movements, while increasing heart rate and training levels.
How does Whole Body Vibration increase blood circulation throughout the body?
The fast contraction and instant relaxation of muscles creates a pump to the blood vessels and lymphatic vessels. Blood circulation allows for oxygen to flow into these inactive areas. Increased oxygen flow boosts active muscle capacity, increasing training efficiency.
How do I target specific muscle groups?
You are easily able to target different muscle groups based on the position you choose with your vibration machine. For the V-Bell, raising your arms in a direct 90? degree angle will work your biceps. If you move into a squat position on the platform you are able to target your glutes, quads and overall core stability. The iShape can offer an easy upper back-stretch simply by holding both hands onto a top bar.
Why should I use Whole Body Vibration?
WBV increases the blood circulation and stretch reflexes in hard to reach muscle locations at a fast speed. Increased blood circulation allows for the oxygen to flow freely to the muscles. Increased blood circulation and stretch reflexes improve overall health from athletic ability, to lymphatic drainage, to increased bone density and even balancing hormones.
Who is using Whole Body Vibration?
Everyone from professional sports teams (National Baseball League, National Football League), to professional athletes (Olympic Winners), to fitness buffs, to personal trainers, to Physical Rehabilitation centers, and Individual Health Enthusiasts.
